  • Who can argue with a 6 TD day from quarterback Michael Engle? Didn’t think so, the offense came out from the opening snap and made their presence felt on the field. Engle was spectacular and of course so was Alex Koors hauling in 145 yards and two touchdowns. The running game was weak in first half especially on first down but second half was a different story. Love the two back system.
  • Outside of the fourth quarter this was downright perfect…89 yards of total offense through three quarters of play. Granted Rose Hulman does not have the explosive offense but the Tigers played within themselves for the ball game and forced a lot of sacks and turnovers, something that they didn’t do much last season.
  • Eric Malm had a great opening day, sending kicks to about the 10 yard line and was perfect on PAT’s and one FG. The kick coverage squad is what brings this grade down. A long kickoff return to the DePauw 16 enabled the Engineers to get a FG late in 1st half and without that, the Old Gold could easily have shutout Rose in the half. Punting from Dahlstrom was solid.
  • This team was fired up from the get go. Tried to get the crowd into it even before the game and did not take this team to lightly. It was a hard fought game and even some second stringers (Cato, Burr) made some big impacts in the game.

  • Another great performance from Michael Engle on the road in a tough atmosphere. 252 yards and a touchdown on 29-36. Stellar for only his third start. Running game was even more balanced this weekend and the offensive line deserves a lot of credit for the way they blocked a very tough pass-rush heavy Centre Defense.
  • Defense was stellar for most of second half. Whatever adjustments were made at half-time really worked for the Tigers and the red-zone D this year has looked the best in years. Stopping Centre twice in red-zone to force field goals (one was missed) was crucial to their victory. Can’t fail to mention the great stop on the last drive by the Colonels. Needed to find a way to stop Osterman at QB though, he still ran for 147 yards in the game.
  • Another par day for the Special teams. Dahlstrom was punting spectacular and Malm was 3-3 on PAT’s but the coverage was again very poor. Albright was able to break open two large runs on Punts to give Centre some great field position especially on the last punt of the game. Something needs to be done in coverage in order to set-up a better situation for the DePauw defense. Want to see Malm kick more too, he’s got a strong leg.
  • The only reason why this gets an A- is the intensity of team on last offensive drive. Just looked dead out there when a first down could’ve put the game away, however this was a very tough place to play in a night game that Centre had circled since last year. DePauw got off to a slow start but was able to put the Colonels away and not let the big crowd affect them. Hope to see same intensity rest of the season.

  • A great day for the offense against a dismal Defense from Sewanee.  A slow start for the Tigers gives them an A- but Engle with 4 TD’s and no turnovers is impressive enough.  Running game showed their true colors with 139 yards combined.
  • Forcing three turnovers was very impressive against a Sewanee team that had potential to run the option well.  Only one sack from a good pass rush against a weak offensive line.
  • 0-2 on field goals was not very impressive but Malm is still just a freshman and gaining a lot of experience.  His kick-offs have been consistent through the first three weeks.  Coverage was good as well.
  • Really expected to see DePauw come out stronger in this game however they capitalized well on turnovers to put Sewanee away in that category.  However need better starts to beat better teams in SCAC.

  • Michael Engle showed for the first time to struggle against a competitive defense.  2 INT’s and under 200 yards through the air, however down the stretch the offense competed at its highest, but defense bailed them out.
  • Holding an offensive firepower like Shane Bowser to 26 yards of rushing was incredible.  Big plays downfield gives them the A- here but other than that a near perfect day of shutting down a great athlete in Bowser.  Gave the offense opportunities down the stretch.
  • Another missed FG from Malm but kickoffs and coverage was fantastic especially against a speedy return team like the Majors.
  • Another slow start for the Tigers however they negated that with a 4th quarter performance no one saw coming.  A great effort for half the game but you won’t beat a good playoff team with only 2 quarters of great effort.  Thought Coach Long had some great motivating talks before fourth quarter.

  • 462 yards of total offense against a stout defense.  Can’t argue those statistics.  However the two turnovers could’ve been bigger had Rhodes capitalized.  Engle and the rushing game were all in sync today.
  • 332 yards for an offense that wasn’t expected to do much.  Poor third quarter, which was definitely the worst we’ve seen this defense all year.  However fourth quarter stops saved the day with a great pass rush from the front four.
  • Onside kick coverage was poor and great field position was given to the Lynx all second half.  Also another missed FG from Malm.  Special teams could play a big role in closer games.  Need to tighten it up.
  • A great start finally for the Tigers going up 28-0 at halftime but the B+ comes from the 3rd quarter play, especially of the defense.  Coach Long however got his troops regrouped with a 4th quarter surge.

  • Passing game looked average for a high octane offense but it was the rushing game that was so disappointing today.  Only 61 yards on the ground against a rush defense that was pretty good all day but needed it to open up the pass.  Need better rushing if post-season play is in question.
  • RedZone Defense has been a staple of this offense this year.  A great goal-line stand down the stretch against a surging offense of Adrian gives the defense a big win today.  Can’t say enough about Adam Hawkins and Ryan Pruess on that last play.
  • The first punt return for a touchdown in seven years and a made field goal from Malm along with limited yardage from punts and kicks gives the Special Teams a grade they well deserve.  A big turnaround from last week.
  • A great win against a big non-conference opponent.  Team played well enough to win but still has room for improvement.  Would like to see more of the 5-wide offense, seems to be working best with most athletes on the field.

Comments

  • 474 yards of total offense with a great balanced attack in a hostile environment.  However the pick 6 thrown by Engle with 2 minutes left was almost deadly.  However to lead a team down the field and score so quickly made up for it.  Evans’ catch was ridiculous to win the game.
  • No turnovers forced against a team that does it a lot but only 271 total yards given up.  Also 7 sacks on the day was huge for a team that hadn’t done that well all season.  Big plays killed this defense though today.  If they keep the ball in front of them it would be a different story.
  • Season long 41 yard field goal for Malm and great coverage from a team that can give up yards in a high scoring contest.  However Urban was limited for the Tigers from Trinity and the DePauw Tigers have two big weeks of special teams.
  • Can anyone argue Long’s call to go for two down the stretch? Didn’t think so.  A gutsy call that paid off for a team on the road seeking their first ever win in San Antonio.  Way to hold your composure in a close game with a hostile environment.

  • Where did the DePauw offense go in the first half? A pick 6 in back to back weeks and a running game that was non-existent.  However this team is finding ways to produce yards and when you have a guy like Alex Koors catching bombs it makes it easy.
  • Outside of one long run from Walter Arrington, this defense held their own against a heavy rushing attack from BSC.  They were able to limit the athletes but the running quarterback is something that needs to be addressed because the next two weeks will feature this system.
  • Blocked punt + 2 Eric Malm FG’s + Good coverage = A…enough said
  • Could have been a game this team overlooks however with 30 seniors at the helm and coaches like Robby Long gives DePauw a sense of what Playoff football will be like.

  • A career high 133 yards for Karaszia on Senior day, Engle was nearly perfect outside of a bad start, 30 points and 474 total yards.  Just another day for the DePauw offense.
  • Outside of a 33 yard run by Zambiasi in the first half, the defense played pretty well.  3 sacks on the day including the first play from scrimmage by Fultzy.  However rushing QB again tore this defense up. Definitely need to clog this hole up before next week’s Bell game.
  • A missed EXP and FG gives the Special Teams a B+, however they did limit Austin’s kicker to 2-4 from FG’s as well.  Not a bad day for the Tigers here.
  • On Senior Day emotions run high especially with SCAC title hopes on the line.  A good win in a tough spot as a good start to the game leads Tigers to victory.  However how will the Tigers react this week to the Monon Game?

  • When you get 95 yards of total offense, have three turnovers, and don’t score any points I don’t see how you don’t fail.  Just a poor start and this team looked a step slower than Wabash.
  • The only reason why the “D” doesn’t fail is because of the fight we saw in the first half.  Still after all the corruption of the offense, Wabash only managed 12 points until the botched punt snap.  Second half was the worst defense I’ve seen from this team in the four years I’ve been here.  Not even attempting to cover men.
  • Poor kick returns combined with two botched snaps.
  • How do you not get pumped up for a game like this? I know we have clinched playoffs but from the opening kick this team looked slow, tired, and not wanting to be in Crawfordsville. Not practicing with a wet ball when weather reports all week show rain for the game?  Interesting play as well. Not even a great half-time speech from Coach Long can save the Tigers in this one.  Need to bring some sort of intensity next week for playoff game.
