City Council Meeting on Tuesday Evening

The Greencastle City Council met Tuesday evening. The Council approved the new DePauw Little 5 bike race route. This route will keep Locust Street and any roads south of Indiana Street open during the race.  A resolution passed for a 10-year tax deduction for the Chiyoda (Chi-Yoda) U-S-A Corporation.  The Greencastle auto part manufacturer currently employs 120 Putnam County residents. The company directors plan to invest 2 million dollars in 4 new machines to expand.  Chiyoda officials hope the expansion will create 140 new jobs for the community.  Mayor Sue Murray reported the city of Greencastle won the Stellar Community Grant. North Vernon, will share the 30 million dollar award.  Murray calls the news a once in a community’s lifetime opportunity. She explains what it would mean for Greencastle, had they not been selected.

MURRAY: “We wouldn’t ever have the opportunity to finish in a timely way what we set forth. So what we put together as a 3-year plan, suddenly became a 25 to 30 year plan.”

Murray also announced the Greencastle population reached 10,000.  The council members see this increase as a sign that Greencastle is moving the right direction.
