Yo Yo Ma Concert

As part of the DePauw discourse, Yo Yo Ma visited Greencastle this past weekend. Two gracious donors allowed the DePauw community to enjoy Yo Yo Ma free of charge to the Universtity. Judson and Joyce Greene support Ma in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The Greene’s are the founders and supporters of the DePauw Discourse. They chose to bring Yo Yo Ma to DePauw to support this year’s theme of empowering society through the arts. He gave a lecture, master class, and two surprise performances, one at Asbury Towers nursing home and the other at the Hub. Yo Yo Ma’s visit to DePauw was a huge success. Dean of the School of Music Mark McCoy spoke highly of Mr.Ma’s appearance on campus.

McCoy states that the concert was sold out in no time. Tickets were sold out in three hours to students, two hours to professors and seven minutes to Greencastle residents. Approximately 1,400 people attend the concert and of that 600 were students.
