St. Andrew’s Non-Food Pantry In Need of More Donations
St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Greencastle holds a "Non-Food" pantry event from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on the last Saturday of each month. The Non-Food pantry is a part of the Putnam County Community Foundation and was founded by Mary Mountz in March of 2009. Approximately 5,000 families were helped on the opening day. Mountz has had support from other members of the church, who all provide different supplies for the organization. Each person receives a bag that contains toilet paper, paper towels, and dish soap. There is a separate table with supplies such as shampoo, toothpaste, and cleaning supplies that people may choose two items from.
Many donations have been given to the pantry from companies such as, Curves, the Retired Teachers of Putnam County, Home Economics Extension Clubs, Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart Distribution, and private citizens. The economy has been effecting the association drastically. The donations are decreasing and the amounts of people are increasing, making it difficult for the members to be consistent when buying items. Mountz says there are approximately 3,652 families who are on food stamps in Greencastle. The non-food pantry looks to increase donations to keep supplying families with goods.
